Wendy Wu unveils agent initiatives as it restarts tours

Samantha Mayling

Wendy Wu Tours has launched two initiatives to support agents, offering the chance to earn points towards a free holiday and to pitch for £1,000 marketing spend. Wu Breakaways replaces the

Bamboo rewards scheme, while the Wendy’s Den campaign, a Dragons’ Den-style scheme, offers cash to promote its tours. Chief executive Glen Mintrim

told a Travel Weekly webcast he hopes to raise awareness of the operator’s European tours as well as its traditional Asian holidays. Wu Breakaways will give points

for booking 10 land-only tours – five in Europe and five in Asia – which can go towards a free trip. Two bookings will be enough to

qualify for a trip and rewards will be allocated to agency branches. Wendy’s Den will be offered via

the operator’s business development managers, with four prizes of £1,000 on offer. Agencies will pitch for the money by submiting plans for a joint marketing campaign.

Tours are working with Chinese and Japanese authorities on the restart of tours. Cherry blossom tours in Japan are scheduled to run from March 25 to April 12 but Mintrim is not sure the company will be able to operate the March departures. He does not expect China to

open up to UK holidaymakers until October, but said tour guides were ready to operate tours as soon as they were allowed. Four sold-out Sri Lanka tours

in February and March are set to go ahead, while holidays featuring Vietnam may be able to depart as soon as April or May. In addition to Covid health

protocols on tours, the operator is introducing a VIP service for clients. For £199, it will organise lateral flow tests and fill in Passenger Locator Forms. wendywutours.co.uk
