Story: Aito boss hits out at new credit card rules I’m a small-business owner and these credit and debit card charges cost a fortune. The profit margins in most sectors in travel are low. In the end, customers are sure to have to pay for these charges through higher package prices or increased airfares.

I really don’t see the gender discrimination mentioned at all when I am recruiting. I know a vast amount of amazing female managing directors within our industry who could very well be on the career path to be the next CEO. FIONA MORRISON
A quote in the report says there are “only five female CEOs in the UK travel, hospitality and leisure industry”. Not sure where they get that information from as I can think of many more! JAMES ROBERTS
Great progress made by Safer Tourism charity
Story: Safer Tourism Foundation wins backing of 10 more brands Congratulations, Sharon [Wood] and Katherine [Atkinson]. This is fantastic progress – very well done. How about addressing the gas suppliers and perhaps the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group?
STEPHANIE TROTTER president and director, CO-Gas Safety
Tui’s Welsh subsidy belies its service claim
Story: Tui to create 175 jobs at customer services centre in Swansea How can Tui’s move to Swansea, with a £500,000 grant from a government that is cash-strapped and cannot keep the Welsh NHS up to scratch, be a “testament to Tui’s reputation for delivering excellence in customer service”? Tui has just closed one contact centre in Luton at a cost; now it has recouped that from the Welsh.
STEVE KANE Travel Weekly would welcome a response from Tui
TWEETS THIS WEEK
Dom Carrick @travelchief Trying to sort out my own travel plans remains one of life’s great frustrations! #extravelagent
Westoe Travel @westoetravel Fantastic interview with Super Break’s @gbalmy in @travelweekly by @juliet_dennis. His best performance? We’d vote for his #FreddieMercury

QUOTE OF THE
WEEK
“Spanish hotels are held to ransom. UK operators can strong-arm the hotels because they retain their
cashflow. Why don’t we share the costs?”

Are women really held back in travel?
Story: ‘Blokey culture holding back women’ in travel, hospitality and leisure I guess the pipeline to the top may well be blocked but anyone who can produce a report that suggests there are not enough women or indeed LGBT folk in travel has clearly never attended a large travel event. The current media obsession with gender issues is remarkable. NICK HOLLANDS
