The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Challenge: Bravo for legal action

Story: Clive Jacobs calls for backing of legal challenge to government Bravo, this is a very positive step by Clive. I have just sent a message to a very desperate travel agent hoping they can hang in there in the hope that the cavalry is at last coming. Also, I never thought I would say this, but the march on June 23 should be a prelude to a strike by airports, operators and agents. Painful? Yes, extremely. But I am struggling to see what else we can do as an industry to get government to the table. Phil Nuttall, The Travel Village Group

Day of Action: It’s time to reclaim right to travel

Story: Travel industry day of action planned for June 23 The public is already hugely protected thanks to the vaccination campaign. The PM is overcompensating and posturing for future votes – to the detriment of the travel industry and taxpayers. Vaccinations are the ticket to freedom. Now it’s time for people to reclaim their civil rights to travel – and save an industry. Gregory

Derek Jones @Degsy_DJ Der Touristik Here’s @theresa_may calling out the government on their logic: ‘If we can’t travel until we’ve eradicated every variant in every country, we’ll never travel again!’

Laurence Hicks @lrh_hicks TourHound Currently at our home in Sicily seeing German, French, Dutch and Swedish tourists enjoying holidays in Covid-safe environments & can’t help wondering what is the real motive for @BorisJohnson and @grantshapps stopping Brits from doing the same? It’s crazy.

Gooley: Title well deserved Story: Trailfinders founder Mike Gooley knighted Kristi Nicholls: Well deserved for being an incredible leader and for his services to charities... not forgetting founding the best travel company ever.

Protest: Tickets ‘ridiculous’

Story: More details of June 23 Travel Day of Action announced Lucy Clarke: Booking tickets for a protest is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

Recovery plan: ‘£25bn’ is an insult

Comment: A blueprint for a swift recovery A tourism recovery plan that completely ignores outbound tourism? That’s just what we’ve come to expect from this government. Claiming that £25 billion has been provided to the “tourism, hospitality and leisure sector” is an insult when you know that the vast majority of that has gone to the hospitality and leisure parts of the sector – mainly pubs, hotels and restaurants. This is a classic politician’s way of hiding the truth. Joe
