COVID TESTS

EasyJet, dnata and BA offer further discounts on Covid test prices

Operators and airlines are offering further discounts on Covid-19 PCR tests needed by customers travelling overseas. EasyJet and easyJet holidays’

customers can buy PCR tests for £43 – down from the previous discounted rate of £60 – thanks to a partnership with government- approved testing provider Randox. Dnata Travel Group has also

reduced prices with Randox, so a PCR test costs £43 for clients of trade-only operator Gold Medal. An amber package, which

includes a pre-departure test as well as day two and day eight tests on return in the UK, is £129, down from dnata’s previous price of £180, and less than the £295 it would cost a customer direct. Meanwhile, British Airways

has launched a scheme with Wren Healthcare, which sees the healthcare company send a specialist to the customer’s home to take a sample, avoiding the need to visit a testing facility. These home tests with Wren

Healthcare are available via ba.com at a reduced rate of £129. The usual rate is £169.

Great Little Breaks unveils UK rail booking system for agents

Juliet Dennis

Great Little Breaks has introduced an online rail booking system to allow agents to sell train- inclusive UK city-break packages for the first time. The system was due to go live this week on the agent

section of the operator’s website. It will initially be exclusive to the trade and allow

agents to book city-break packages by rail, with all elements, including the transport, hotel, theatre or attraction, commissionable. The UK short-break specialist, which started

working closely with the trade last year in the wake of the collapse of Super Break, has been developing the system since last summer. A trial started with selected agents last month. Agents will be able to book rail travel to all major UK cities, including London, York, Edinburgh,

Malta Tourism Authority creates online training course about Gozo

The Malta Tourism Authority has launched a new agent training course dedicated to the island of Gozo. The training modules were designed by the tourist board and the Gozo Tourism Association and there is an accompanying booking incentive. The authority has also partnered with Mercury Holidays to offer agents the chance to win a three-night holiday in Gozo. malta-training.com; mercuryholidays.co.uk/gozo-comp

Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Director of trade relations Chris Cundall said the

launch coincided with the operator’s decision to focus on promoting UK cities as availability tightens in coastal resorts for summer. He said: “A number of the honeypot destinations

such as the Lake District, Cornwall and coastal resorts are filling up. By offering city breaks, agents will have additional products to sell in the summer and autumn when traditionally people take overseas city breaks.” He is hopeful the rail booking system will increase

Great Little Breaks’ trade bookings by offering agents an easy switch-sell if they cannot get availability in popular tourist spots and a new product for autumn and winter. One night at the four-star London Kensington

Forum hotel, with a theatre ticket for Wicked and including rail travel from York, costs from £158. greatlittlebreaks.com
