Brighton joins Atas to drive growth and events


Te Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) has appointed Claire Brighton as account director. Brighton will join Atas on


March 9 from Te Advantage Travel Partnership, where she has spent nine years as commercial account manager and senior commercial manager. Prior to Advantage, she worked for Tomas Cook TV and TV Travel Shop. Brighton will be responsible for


supporting and growing the supplier, associate and agent membership of Atas and developing the association’s existing training and events portfolio. Paul Melinis, chairman of Atas


and UK and Ireland managing director of APT, said: “Claire brings strong account management skills and commercial awareness, and understands the expectations and requirements of suppliers and agents within a membership organisation. “Claire joins us at an exciting time


as Atas enters its fourth year, and we look forward to welcoming her drive as we target further growth for the association and the sector in 2020.” Brighton said: “I look forward to

Virgin Voyages has begun offering cruise packages on booking portal Virgin Atlantic Flightstore. It can be used to package up Virgin Voyages itineraries with Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines flights, and add pre and post-cruise hotels. First ship Scarlet Lady will sail from April. Agents earn 10% commission on all components.

One Ocean Expeditions cruise


line to enter administration One Ocean Expeditions said this week it was preparing to enter administration. The Canada-based polar specialist cruise line has cancelled several sailings since November. It has written to agencies outlining how to claim refunds. However, the company’s website was still operational on Tuesday.


Excite failure raises ‘more questions than answers’


Administrators for Australian wholesaler Excite Holidays said there are “more questions than answers” around the firm’s demise. Te company ceased trading


on January 10. Phone calls to the London office were being referred to KPMG. Excite Holidays Europe posted


on its Facebook page on December 30 that it was “experiencing system issues, which have affected a number of our bookings and calls”. Morgan Kelly, restructuring


services partner at KPMG Australia, said: “We are at the very beginning stage of the administration process, where there are more questions than answers. “We have now commenced an


urgent assessment of the business and further information will be made available to affected parties as soon as possible.” Excite was set up in 2002 and


has offices in Greece, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Tailand, the UK and the US. As well as hotels, the business


sold adventure and cultural tours, and ferry and transfer services. Te Advantage Travel


Partnership leisure director Kelly Cookes said Excite was a “relatively small” partner but an “important one to some members that did

Explore pledges to be carbon neutral by offsetting flights


Explore is to offset all flights and ground operations using carbon credits and has promoted yield and capacity manager Prue Stone to head of sustainability. The operator claims to be the first in the UK to become carbon neutral. It was also one of six founding companies of industry collective Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency this week.
