Cruising’s eco efforts offer reassurance A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
As this bumper themed edition of Travel Weekly demonstrates, there is plenty to celebrate in the cruise industry at the start of 2020 – but it’s not necessarily all plain sailing. Like most parts of the industry, the sector is coming under
increasing scrutiny for its environmental record, so it is imperative that it takes its responsibilities seriously. Agents anticipating growing demands from customers over the sustainability of their holiday choices will be pleased to see lines taking action (back page). And even though there is still some way to go, it should provide a level of confidence to reassure potential clients that the issue is a priority at the very top. In recent years, cruise lines have been among the most supportive
of the travel trade. So it comes as no surprise that a number of them will be out in force and showcasing their wares at this week’s sold-out Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards. Once again, 1,200 guests will gather to hear which suppliers have come out on top based on thousands of agent votes. And as usual, the Globes will give us a chance to reflect not just on company successes but also on the challenges and changes the industry continues to face.
