Cruise trade body Clia has revealed the shortlist of agents nominated for this year’s River Cruise Excellence Awards.
The awards will be presented during the Clia UK & Ireland River Cruise Conference in Amsterdam on November 18-19. There are 10 categories, including best river cruise newcomer, agent of the year and a special recognition award. A total of 44 agents have been shortlisted. The conference, for which
Travel Weekly is media partner, will include ship visits, a trade fair, networking and keynote speeches. Agent delegates will stay
overnight on one of the river ships in port, including A-Rosa’s Flora, Amadeus’s Amadeus Silver III, CroisiEurope’s Symphonie II, Riviera Travel’s Emily Brontë and

Uniworld boss Kathryn Beadle to retire in November
Uniworld’s UK managing director, Kathryn Beadle, will retire in November. She is to step down after three years in the role. The river cruise line said Beadle’s successor would be announced in due course. › Talk Back, page 19
Silversea’s 10th ship in fleet to be called Silver Moon
Silversea Cruises has placed an order to build a new ship, to launch in 2020, with options to build two more. The vessel will be called Silver Moon and will be the luxury line’s 10th ship. It will accommodate 596 passengers in all-suite staterooms.
Reuben’s Retreat receives £25,000 from Freemasons
Reuben’s Retreat has received a grant of £25,000 from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. Funds are raised by Freemasons, and recipients are chosen in a public vote. Reuben’s Retreat is seeking £750,000 to fund its next three phases of development.
Thomas Cook Airlines faces three days of strike action
Thomas Cook Airlines faces the threat of three days of strike action by pilots if fresh talks fail. Pilots union Balpa warned of strikes on September 23, 29 and October 6 if talks break down. Acas talks were held this week. › Talk Back, page 19
