@angela_tadd_travel_counsellor Last week my office became known as the ‘Insanity Caravan’ – it was so hot! I’ve taken steps this week and I’m ready...I’ve made it to the beach and this is much better

Liz Sullivan @lilasullivan78 Eagle Travel Bedford The travel industry needs government support much more than people need a half-price McDonald’s that they would probably have bought anyway.
The best of your letters, comments and social media this week OTAs: ‘Must comply’
Story: On the Beach and Loveholidays ignoring Abta’s refund policy Putting Abta regulations to one side, these OTAs are in breach of the law and they should be forced to comply immediately. The CAA and the Competition and Markets Authority have the powers to act and they should do without delay. I, like many other operators out there, have worked within the law at huge personal expense and it just isn’t right that household-name companies are being allowed to operate in this way. David Barker Travel Weekly would welcome responses from On the Beach and Loveholidays
Unfair: Hospitality help
Story: Chancellor rules out furlough scheme extension The Irish government employee support scheme pays people to work rather than not to work. Doesn’t that make more sense? Like all travel companies, we’ve furloughed people who could have been helping with customer service, writing content, outbound calling etc. The Irish government has also extended its scheme until March 2021 due to the fact that winter is likely to be fairly grim. The UK government – after saying it could not and would not help any specific sector – provided a tax break to the hospitality sector and gave people vouchers to eat half-price burgers. The next week they told everyone to lose weight. Anyone get the feeling they’re making it up as they go along? Olly Brendon, ATD Travel Services

Locking down Leicester did not stop holidays to Cornwall, but issues in Barcelona stop holidays to the Canaries. Say you want to protect UK tourism instead of these nonsensical decisions for outbound tourism.
Emma Savage @TCEmmaSavage Travel Counsellors Flights booked for my corporate account today – it’s been a while and I’m delighted to be back assisting my business travellers.
Normality: ‘It’s my dream’
Story: Jet2holidays sales chief says agents ‘must get back to being salespeople’ I’d love to get back to doing my job but it’s impossible with so many long-term outstanding refunds, plus endless amounts of paperwork for rebookings, some of which are on the second and third ‘rebook’, and new cancellations coming through daily, especially cruises. I long for normality. Jane Berry
