Travel companies vow to reduce gender pay gaps

Kuoni says it is committed to “improving balance” within the organisation after revealing a 27% mean gender pay gap, one of the highest among UK tour operators.
It put the figure down to the
fact that it has a high proportion of female staff in the lower-paid quartiles, but said its report showed it had “an excellent gender balance throughout our business”. Kuoni has 411 female staff and
117 male staff. Women account for 78% of the overall workforce, 50% of the senior management team and 50% of the leadership team. In its lowest-paid quartile, 84% of staff are women, compared with 62% in the highest-paid quartile. In a statement, the company
said: “We take pride in our efforts to be inclusive, with coaching and career progression plans for everyone regardless of gender and, in producing this report, we commit to continuing to improve balance within our organisation.” Meanwhile, Saga Travel said it

Jetset hails bigger on-the-road team as it celebrates 50 years
Trade-only flight consolidator Jetset says its agent-first mantra has helped it keep up with the pace of change to reach its 50th anniversary this year. Sales director Adrian Smyth said Jetset had a record turnover for the first three months of 2018.
Jetset started out as an
Australasia and North America specialist but now works with 2,000 agents, offering access to 300,000 hotels and flights from 150 airlines worldwide. Smyth said an “army” of call
centre staff had reduced in size with the rise of its online system, which has helped him employ more on-the-road sales staff. That team has grown from three to five in the past 18 months.
