BA adds 150 weekly Gatwick flights after buying Monarch slots

Phil Davies phil.davies@travelweekly.co.uk

British Airways is to operate its biggest summer schedule from Gatwick in almost a decade following the acquisition of failed Monarch’s take-off and landing slots.

More than 150 weekly flights

have been added to last summer’s total of about 1,000. Flights to Malaga will be

boosted from 27 flights a week to 35, Alicante from 14 to 22, Faro from 17 to 21, Tenerife from six to 13, Madeira from six to nine and Lanzarote from three to five. The carrier’s new destinations

from Gatwick will include Palma, Mahon and Gibraltar. The expansion comes as BA

bolsters its winter schedule from Gatwick with more than 40,000 extra seats across 400 additional flights between February 9 and March 24. BA has already expanded its long-haul network from Gatwick this summer with routes to Toronto and Las Vegas. These will join Oakland and Fort Lauderdale, which were added last summer.
