EasyJet says it will be ‘making decisions to cancel flights, particularly into and out of Italy’
Airlines slash schedules as weak demand bites
BA, easyJet and Ryanair cut flights as coronavirus crisis grows. Ian Taylor reports
Leading carriers have announced wholesale cuts in services due to coronavirus as airline association Iata warned on Monday of “serious declines in demand”. Iata demanded regulators relax
use-or-lose slot restrictions at airports in “these extraordinary circumstances”. It noted one airline had seen
bookings to Italy “collapse to zero” and said many report “50% no-shows across several markets”. British Airways cancelled or
merged more than 200 flights from London between March 16-28, including to New York, Italy, France,

Germany and other European countries. Parent International Airlines
Group reported “demand weakness on Asian and European routes and a weakening of business travel from cancellation of industry events and corporate travel restrictions.” On Friday, it said: “Flights to
mainland China have been suspended. Some services on other Asian routes have been reduced [and] capacity on Italian routes for March has been significantly reduced.” British Airways is also waiving its
fee for changing or delaying flights on bookings made up to March 16 to give customers more confidence to book. Ryanair announced on Monday
it is cutting flights to and from Italy by up to 25% between March 17 and April 8. Chief executive Michael
