LETTER OF THE

WEEK

TALK BACK WHAT YOU’RE SAYING THIS WEEK

EDITORIAL@ TRAVEL WEEKLY. CO.UK

Cruise pricing is cause for concern

Comment by Miles Morgan: Day of reckoning looms for UK cruise sector I totally agree with Miles’ comment in last week’s Travel Weekly. I love the cruise brands and the passion with which they produce superb new ships. But I have seen a decline in forward bookings as the market will not place their hard-earned deposits down too early as they know the lines will alter fares downward to fill these vessels. We have all done such a good job in educating the cruise-loving public, but that’s now biting us in the bum as customers play the system on fares and play the agents against each other on price. No one loves cruise more than me. But even I feel the

‘ouch’ factor when I see some of the tactics and fares in the marketplace. I hear both sides of the arguments – from loyal clients to new-to-cruise – and I must say I am a little concerned about where we go from here. JASON PETERS director, Creative Cruises

TripAdvisor has lost a lot of credibility

Story: TripAdvisor rejects ‘fake reviews’ claims The big issue with TripAdvisor is that reviewers are anonymous, with no proof that they were genuine customers.

DAVE GASKELL

Your neighbour, your competitor – anybody can post a review on TripAdvisor. This is unacceptable. And besides, since TripAdvisor is asking hosts for money for its services, it is not independent and has lost a lot of credibility.

PETER DE LANGE Travel Weekly welcomes a response from TripAdvisor

Story: Mark Warner’s Julie Franklin to join rival Hotelplan Excellent appointment. What a major coup for Hotelplan and a massive loss and big shoes to fill for Mark Warner.

An Edinburgh tax fund should be spread

Story: Edinburgh to consult on £2 tourist tax If this goes ahead, the money raised from it should be used to fund development across Scotland, not just Edinburgh. Scotland is already the nost capital-centric country in western Europe. With the amount of public money already flowing through Edinburgh from the Scottish government, VisitScotland and RBS, it’s about time other places got a slice of the action.
