DESIGNER TRAVEL YOUR STORIES

Homeworking company recruits cruise manager

Homeworking agency Designer Travel has appointed a cruise and long-haul business development manager to support its cruise business. Jessica Trickett will be responsible for recruiting

more cruise specialists and working closely with suppliers to source offers and generate content. Trickett started in the newly created role on January 2,

having joined from Celebrity Cruises where she was regional sales manager. She has worked in the travel industry for 20 years, initially in retail as an agent, before moving into the cruise sector 12 years ago. Darren Bien, Designer Travel head of sales and

commercial, said the appointment was part of a strategy for cruise to account for 25% of all sales within two years. “Cruise now is about 15% of our business, compared to

5% three years ago,” he said. “Now the strategy is to go after river, expedition and ultra-luxury as areas of opportunity.” Bien revealed Designer Travel had increased its cruise

sales by 312% in three years, with 98% of its team making a cruise booking last year compared with 25% three years ago. Designer Travel also has aims to grow its long-haul sales

by 20%. Bien said Trickett would work to identify long-haul trends and source market-leading prices and offers for agents.

PANACHE CRUISES

Cruise retailer expands apprentices total to 20

Panache Cruises has hired an additional four apprentices as part of its strategy to employ 100 by 2030. Henry Livesey, Tom Holding, Molly Brooks and Isabella

Clark have joined the Chorley-based luxury cruise retailer, boosting its number of apprentices to 20. In addition, Mollie-Jo Green, who joined Panache Cruises

after her A-levels to start a degree apprenticeship, has been promoted to assistant partnership manager. Chief executive James Cole said the apprentices had a

big part to play in helping the company continue to grow. The agency’s sales revenue increased by 50% last year to more than £25 million, serving more than 6,000 customers. “Apprentices are great for the business. We want people

who want to succeed and grow with the business and we feel apprentices give us that,” Cole said. “Combining apprentices with the more-experienced

people we recruit into the business is the way we’ve chosen to grow Panache Cruises. Somebody could join us at 18 and be in a managerial position three years later with a degree under their belt – but without a huge student debt.”
