19 TIME OUT

Sparkle and shine December night skies are full of festive light shows. The Train of Lights is always a magical sight from the banks of The Dart and Woodlands are hosting Magical Christmas Nights through- out December. This year the town will welcome its first Dazzling ‘Tractor of Lights’ Procession on 14 December with market stalls, music and a cider tent in the Royal Avenue Gardens. The streets of Dartmouth will come alive with illuminated tractors raising vital funds for both River Dart Rotary and farming charities. Alternatively Head to Torquay (29 November – 2 January) for the fantastic and free Bay of Lights Illumination Trail. The fully accessible and sensory extravaganza follows a 1.5 mile route along the waterfront and features a tunnel of lights, 12-metre high Christmas Tree as well as a giant walk-through Christmas present.

get steamy Crisp, cold days call for bracing winter walks and most beaches are now open to our 4-legged friends too. Head to Blackpool Sands and you can warm up with a hot drink or a bacon butty and if you’re really daring you can book into the sauna (seakayakdevon. co.uk) before your cold water dip in the sea. Alternatively try the Somewhere Sauna at Mothecombe or the Halogi sauna at Shoalstone Pool in Brixham.

life down at the Mill The ‘Walk, Shop and Eat’ combination has something to suit everyone on a family day out and the leafy circular River Avon walk from Loddiswell (southdevon-nl.org.uk) is a great option. When enthusiasm and energy levels start to fade call in at the Avon Mill Garden Centre where you can fill up at the popular café serving cream teas and lunches as well as browsing through the well-stocked garden centre, Threads Boutique and a gallery full of locally crafted gifts and artwork.
