Dartmouth Outdoor Pool opens on 25 May

Delamore Arts 24 This art event displaying work by both estab- lished and emerging artists is returning for the month of May. The truly magnificent gardens at Delamore House, near Ivybridge, are at their best and they are an ideal backdrop for over 100 sculpture exhibits. Inside Delamore House the light and airy rooms provide the perfect setting for paintings and other artworks. All the art is for sale but even if you’re not in the market to buy it’s worth a visit for the views and the cake in the Old Kitchen Café. Delamore-art.co.uk

Splish… splosh….splash The days are getting long and warm (well supposedly anyway), so there’s no better time for an outdoor dip. If you don’t fancy dipping your toe in the sea don’t forget there are a few other outdoor alternatives for water babies of all ages. Dartmouth Outdoor Pool opens on 25 May. It’s heated to a balmy 28 degrees and staffed by fully qualified lifeguards. Book your swim session online at Dartmouthoutdoorpool.com The Art Deco Tinside Lido in Plymouth is a grander affair situated at the tip of the Hoe. Filled with seawater it might take your breath away but the setting is unbeatable. Opens May. Brixham Shoalstone Seawater Pool is lovingly looked after by a team of keen enthusiasts. It’s free to use, has stunning views across Torbay and is well placed with parking nearby and alongside a great little local fish restaurant. Even if you don’t swim, do support their aim to keep the pool open and you could even try the seaside sauna heated by a Finnish wood- fired stove and run by Halogico.com

Start Point Lighthouse Tours In the summer months this striking working lighthouse on one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English coast opens its doors for guided tours on Sundays and Wednesdays. Hear about its history since it was built in 1836 and listen to the breath-taking stories about storms, shipwrecks and lighthouse living. Trinityhouse.co.uk

A wave of nostalgia On 6 & 7 June a fleet of around 15 yachts will recreate the spectacle, sporting values and elegance of the regatta circuits of the pre-war years and sail into Dartmouth as part of the Richard Mille vintage yacht regatta. These beautifully made and restored classic yachts, all built or designed before 1940 will charm any yachtie or landlubber. The fleet will stop off in Dartmouth en route to Cowes from Falmouth in competition for the prestigious Richard Mille Cup.
