48th Lubricants and

The GOMA Symposium, in partnership with ELGI, held in October last year was a new venture for Lube Magazine. I’d heard many positive comments about this symposium so felt compelled to apply for a media partnership. Fortunately this request was met favourably and so LUBE was present and I attended. In my endeavour to increase the readership of Lube Magazine, this new opportunity to expand the circulation in Croatia was too good to miss.

GOMA is the Croatian Society for Fuels and Lubricants. The acronym GOMA comes from the initial two letters of ‘goriva’ and ‘maziva’ the Croatian words for ‘fuels’ and ‘lubricants’. GOMA’s strong links with the Croatian universities, societies, institutions and professional organisations means that technical knowledge is always up-to-date and by means of the symposium it is shared with all those who attend. The GOMA symposiums alternate each year, one year it’s fuels and the other year it’s lubricants, 2015 was the year for lubricants.

The venue for the symposium was the Lone Hotel located in Rovinj. With purpose built facilities designed for conferences, this was the ideal setting for learning and networking. Situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, its location is perfect for delegates travelling from Europe and further afield with Pula international airport just 38km away. For me it was easy to get a direct flight from London to Pula then a €20 ride on the shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel.

The opening speech by Bruno Novina, President of GOMA, started the proceedings and welcomed all delegates and guests. He started by explaining that the ancient Greek definition of the word ‘symposium’ was ‘to drink together’, which ensured audience attention. Bruno thanked ELGI’s Terry Dicken and Carol Koopman for their hard work, this was the first time GOMA had been in partnership with ELGI.
