Lube-TechGoes Digital
An online academic and industry resource that can be easily accessed by all Two issues ago, LUBE published the 100th instalment of the Lube-Tech technical articles which form the centrefold of Lube Magazine; something of a milestone for a regular article which has now been featured for nearly 20 years.
Lube-Tech was first introduced into the pages of Lube Magazine issue number 28 in February 1997, as LUBE was evolving from a modest company newsletter for the BLF (British Lubricants Federation, later UKLA; the United Kingdom Lubricants Association) into a regular industry publication for the benefit of UK end-users. Initially technical articles were distributed throughout LUBE. The decision to place them in the centre of the magazine in each edition was made to help the reader navigate to them more easily, and thus Lube-Tech became a regular feature of the magazine.
Since then, Lube-Tech has provided in-depth, technical commentary concerning a range of Lubricant Industry fields and has been contributed to by article providers from numerous
companies and countries. It has also, in its time, marked a number of significant events in both the history of UKLA and the Lubricants Industry in general, from the formation of the Metalworking Fluid Product Stewardship Group (MWFPSG) in May 1997, to keeping various companies abreast of the changes made by the new legislation put into action in the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) during the 2000s.
The breadth and depth of information which goes into Lube-Tech has always meant it has been recognised as an invaluable academic and industry resource. In the early days, the centre page Lube-Tech section in each issue was especially designed to be a pull-out article, which could be easily extracted from the rest of the magazine and filed for future reference. This was before there was wide access to digital databases or online sources with most people preferring to read hard copy reports.
Today access to information digitally is commonplace, with numerous academic resources and journals instantaneously available to readers globally. Ever capable of adapting to the times, Lube Magazine itself went digital in 2011, and with it the Lube-Tech centre pages from February of that year became accessible to subscribers of the digital magazine. Now, however, we at Lube Media have spearheaded a further initiative. Through a great deal of planning, diligence and hard work, we have created a complete online database of all of the Lube-Tech articles published, with each Lube-Tech being accessible, fully searchable and available to download in PDF format. This service is being provided free of charge and without need of subscription to Lube Digital for any visitor to the Lube Media website.
Creating this database has once again highlighted to us the considerable time and effort contributing authors have put into Lube-Tech over the years, for which we would like to thank them sincerely, as it is their contributions that have made this project possible. We would also like to invite all of our past authors to check the database for themselves to ensure the details we have provided about them are correct.
In many ways, we see the database as returning to the foundations of Lube-Tech, providing readers with a pull-out paper that can be easily extracted from Lube Magazine and easily kept for reference by our readers as well as those working in the lubricants industry and those studying one of the many fields and disciplines which make it up.
