Travelling along highs and lows

Continuing on our journey, from Europe to further afield, I am pleased to share with you the news that UEIL has two new members: Lubrica from Bulgaria and Forsythe Lubrication located in Ontario, Canada. Forsythe has provided the Local Report which can be found on page 57.


Returning to the UK, the 20th ICIS World Base Oils and Lubricants Conference, to be held in London, will be well attended by delegates from all around the globe. The February 2016 edition of LUBE’s subject content is primarily Base Oils and will be handed out at this conference.


Throughout this February 2016 publication you will learn about new technologies and important developments. The ICIS Base Oil Report is particularly notable at this time of fluctuating oil prices and can be found on page 61.


Hearing the news of the highs of space exploration by Tim Peake, the first British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to visit the International Space Station, to the lows of the price of a barrel of oil to below $30, made me think and compare the two. Forty years ago in 1975, the Forties Oil Field (the largest oil field in the North Sea) laid their first pipelines. The deep sea exploration was described as one of the greatest feats of modern engineering. The technical challenges of the North Sea: poor weather and an outrageous environment, was more difficult than going to the moon, it was like a perilous journey into space. Things were being attempted that hadn’t been done before.


Where will we go next? How far, how deep, how high, how low?
