The 2014-2015 Global Competitiveness Report, published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) reports that the top of the rankings continues to be dominated by highly advanced western economies together with some Asian countries. For the sixth successive year, Switzerland remains in top position, followed by Singapore and the United States (up from fifth position). Next are Finland (down one), Germany (down one) and Japan now in sixth place (up three from ninth last year). Finally Hong Kong and the Netherlands remain stable at positions seven and eight, while the United Kingdom is up one with Sweden at tenth position (down from sixth), thus completing the top ten. Interesting to note that all but two of these countries have their own currency, Germany and the Netherlands share the Euro.
Margareta Drzeniek Hanouz, Director and Lead Economist, WEF stated that: “The world is in a situation where the economy is moving slowly out of the global financial crisis and the ensuing recession. Continuing reforms to enhance competitiveness is really crucial in order to sustain the recovery and the growth of momentum.” She continued, “The Global Competitiveness Report measures factors, institutions and policies that drive productivity in order to ensure solid and healthy growth. We measure productivity by taking into account what we call the twelve pillars of competitiveness: Institutions; Infrastructure; Macroeconomic Environment; Health and Primary Education; Higher Education and Training; Goods Market Efficiency; Labour Market Efficiency; Financial Market Development; Technological Readiness; Market Size; Business Sophistication; and finally Innovation.”
The new contribution from Laurie, will ensure that Lube Magazine maintains momentum and continues to improve, compete and progress.
