Silver Anniversary Celebrations
On the 17th of June, 2015 Nynas Naphthenics Ltd celebrated the 25th anniversary of their being officially registered as a company in the UK at a special event held at the Runway Visitor Park in Manchester, beneath the vast wings of the iconic supersonic airliner Concorde. The plane remains a truly awe inspiring sight to this day; a fantastic piece of innovation that was sadly grounded in 2003, due to, among other things, it being unable to adapt to the changing times fast enough. This, however, is not a problem shared by Nynas.
Originating in Sweden in the 1920s, Nynas began as a provider of fuel oils such as petrol and diesel, and became a successful company. However, as a result of the crises in the crude oil industry during the 1970s, Nynas successfully switched to the production of specialist
naphthenic oils whilst simultaneously expanding greatly on what had previously been something of a sideline business as a provider of bitumen. The company has since continued to invest in new technologies to allow them to remain at the head of their chosen market.
The audience at the celebration was given an account of the company’s history by Rafael Renaudeau – the Nynas Area General Manager in Europe West – in his introductory presentation, which was followed by three talks each dealing with one of the three main areas of Nynas business, thus providing an overview of the product the company has to offer.
Firstly, a talk from Dr Bruce Pahlavanpour detailing the history and developments within the field of one of the company’s primary products; insulating oil. After this, Professor Thomas Norrby gave a
thorough and illuminating talk upon the market demand for base oils, and how the company can continue to capitalise upon operating within such an exclusive niche. Finally, Anna Eriksson detailed the makeup and properties of process oils, whilst also highlighting the various areas and applications where naphthenic oils add the most value.
Following the talks the day was rounded off with further recreational pursuits, as guests were given guided tours by the Visitor Park staff of both a Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MPA and the Concorde itself.
