VLS opens several new investigations into 5W-30 PCMOs
VLS is investigating a number of new cases regarding 5W-30 passenger car engine oils which brings the total number of cases to 75.
All of the new cases relate to 5W-30 passenger car engine oils and concern misleading, incompatible or incorrect marketing claims.
Case 172 and case 173 concern claims to meet ACEA categories and manufacturer specifications that are not compatible. In case 173, the product labelling also features a vague, generalised description that VLS considers may be misleading for end users.
In case 174, VLS is investigating whether some of the chemical characteristics of the product meet the ACEA
and OEM specifications claims. Case 175 concerns claims to meet more than one ACEA category that are mutually exclusive due to different phosphorous limits.
Mike Bewsey, Chairman of VLS (UK) Ltd said “Incorrect and misleading use of marketing claims continues to cause problems in our industry. It is vital that end users can have confidence that products really can deliver what they claim and are genuinely suitable for today’s increasingly sophisticated engines, where engine oil choice really does matter. Through our investigations, we will help to ensure we have the highest standards in Europe for lubricant manufacture, blending and marketing, and a ‘level playing field’ for all participants, protecting the interests of the consumer and other end users.”
