Fiction (p22) and Non-Fiction (p23) charts in full
when it was first published back at the end of August 2023. Scottish footballer Duncan
Ferguson has interested 11,715 fans, with Big Dunc helping him score sixth position in the TCM, while Ocean, Sir David Attenborough’s collaboration with Colin Butfield – published to coincide with the national treasure’s 99th birthday – has reached 10th place in the TCM with 9,224 copies sold. Robert Macfarlane’s Is a River Alive? – number one in last week’s HBNF and Indie Bookshop charts – drops to fifth place following a 32.3% erosion in its sales. With 3,792 sales in the past seven days, it is enough to stay in the TCM Top 50, but tumbles 19 places to 37. The final new release in the
TCM Top 10 this week is Joe Abercrombie’s The Devils, with just over 10,000 copies sold in its first five days on sale. It is by far Abercrombie’s biggest week to date, with his previous personal best coming from 2021’s The Wisdom of Crowds, which sold 4,387 units in its first week and went on to move 10,494 copies in its lifetime.

Abercrombie sits atop the Original Fiction chart, just ahead of Florence Knapp’s debut, The Names, which interested 4,508 readers, and John Connolly’s The Children of Eve. The latest Charlie Parker thriller sold 3,364 copies, a slight growth of 1.1% on 2024’s The Instruments of Darkness. A new release also sits at the top
of the Paperback Non-Fiction (PBNF) chart this week: Ben Macintyre’s The Siege has displaced BBC Proms 2025, with sales of 4,051 copies – up 7% compared with 2023’s Colditz. Macintyre’s previous paper- back continued to grow following its first week across June in the
run-up to Father’s Day in 2023 – so booksellers should expect the author to continue to hold the top spot hostage for a few more weeks. Terry Deary sees sales of A History of Britain in Ten Enemies drop a slight 1.1% to 3,498 copies to retain second place in the PBNF chart for a second consecutive week. The Children’s chart bucks the
trend with an older title returning to the top. Suzanne Collins’ Sunrise on the Reaping has seen sales drop 37.7% to 7,588 units, but it is enough to see it not only return to the top of the Children’s chart, but also overtake Onyx Storm as the best- selling book of the year so far. The new releases have helped
reverse the trend of the past few weeks, with volume sales increas- ing by 5.6% to 2.9 million books through the nation’s tills, bringing in a total of £28.5m. It is still one of the lowest figures of the year, but is up 6.9% compared with the previ- ous seven days and up 5.3% on the same week last year – meanwhile, volume is up 1.8% year-on-year.
