Osman makes triumphant return to the chart to lead a tight, competitive pack


The paperback edition of the first title in a new series finds the British author flexing his muscles as, overall, TCM sales begin to climb week-on-week

hanks to 17 new releases in the UK Top 50 – seven of which appear in the Top 10 – sales of books at the


upper end of the charts have risen by more than a quarter week-on- week, according to the latest data from NielsenIQ BookData’s Total Consumer Market (TCM). The tranche of new releases is


led by the paperback edition of Richard Osman’s We Solve Murders, which tops the chart with 33,611 copies sold. It is the 47th time Osman has reached the TCM’s summit, although his sales are down 39% compared to the same


week last year when The Last Devil to Die shifted 55,088 copies. Osman takes first place in the


Mass-Market Fiction (MMF) chart, ahead of Freida McFadden who debuts in second place with The Tenant on 24,645 copies sold. The last new release from McFadden – January’s The Crash – sold 21,705 books in its first week on sale, giving the thriller writer growth of 13.5% with this latest title. Liane Moriarty’s Here One Moment, Asako Yuzuki’s Butter – translated by Polly Barton – and Robert Harris’ Precipice take third, fourth and fifth place in this week’s MMF chart and are the only


non-new releases (all three are a relatively ancient three weeks old) to take a slot in the TCM Top 10. Ana Huang’s King of Envy – last


week’s TCM and MMF number one – sees its sales drop by two thirds to 6,567 copies, pushing it down to 14th place in this week’s TCM. Emily English, the nutritionist


and Instagram influencer, has persuaded 25,635 of her 1.8 million followers to buy Live to Eat, her newest collection of recipes designed to be nutritionally balanced – and delicious. Those sales are down 27.4% compared with 2024’s So Good, but are enough to put her in second place in the TCM, sandwiched between Osman and McFadden, and top of the Hardback Non-Fiction (HBNF) Top 20. It is a strong week for HBNF


titles, with four of them making the TCM Top 10. Niall Harbison’s Tina has sold 14,007 copies in its first week – which is a slight increase on his previous offering, Hope, which sold 13,446 copies
