This is a second honour at the British Book Awards for Tales on Moon Lane, which scooped the title of Children’s Independent Bookseller of the Year in 2011. Six years on, it is firmly established not just as a fine kids’ specialist but as a cultural heart of London’s Herne Hill. There were a record number of events in 2016, including Tales on Moon Lane’s own half-term reading festivals and its co-ordination of the Southwark School Reading Festival. It expanded in-store services such as free gift-wrapping and birthday lists, and through beautiful displays, decorations and a storytelling cabin in the backyard made a visit to the shop a memorable experience for both children and parents. The shop’s energetic team is at least as active online.
