Travis Perkins pauses Wickes demerger due to ‘extreme volatility’ in markets
THE PLAN to demerge Wickes has been put on hold because of the current level of uncertainty surrounding the impact of coronavirus, according to parent company Travis Perkins. The group, which includes Travis Perkins builders merchants, Wickes, Benchmarx and Tile Giant, said it is seeing ‘extreme volatility’ in the global and UK equity markets. Travis Perkins announced the demerger in August 2019 and was on track to be completed by the end of Q2 2020. There is currently no exact date on when the restart to the demerger will happen but it said it would “defi antly” go ahead.
Compusoft offers free remote working package
CAD SOFTWARE specialist Compusoft is offering customers a free remote working package for those designing at home during the cornonavirus crisis. The package includes a free temporary home working licence so that users can continue to design when they are working out of their home offi ce.
Said Compusoft GB managing director Alex Ainge (pictured): “Everyone is facing a very diffi cult and uncertain time and we want to be able to support our customers through this crisis.” The company is also providing free access to its Showcase 360 software, which enables users to communicate and share their designs with, customers using a dedicated online portal. Compusoft is also offering free webinars with specifi c training to help users master new skills, such as how to create 360-degree images and set
up a virtual online showroom. This, it said, will help retailers present their designs to customers online in the best possible way.
The company has also moved its classroom training online. This will offer tips and advice on how to maintain sales while working remotely and what to do to communicate with customers through digital platforms. Ainge added: “We hope the Remote
Working Package and the online training resources will provide some support to our retailers.”
Neolith donates to its local hospitals
NEOLITH HAS donated €300,000 (£275,000) to three hospitals in Castellón, Spain, in a response to the coronavirus pandemic and the global heath crisis.
The Spanish manufacturer of sintered stone slabs has its factory in Castellón and employs more than 500 people in the area. The three hospitals it will donate to are Hospital General Universitari, Hospital Provincial and Hospital Universitario de La Plana.
The headquarters will also put in preventive measures for employees, which follow Ministry of Health guidelines, as the company is committed to protecting its employees, their families and the wider Castellón community.
The pause on the demerger was taken by the Travis Perkins board so it could manage the whole group through the current situation. Chief executive Nick Roberts said: “Our highest priority is the health and safety of our colleagues, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders, and we have taken decisive action to mitigate the risks, by implementing contingency plans across the group. “We are committed to fulfi lling the essential role we play in the construction industry supply chain in keeping the UK dry, warm, maintained and operational, providing materials, working capital funding and support for our trade customers, large and small.”
