It is an easy sale and an easy commission for their designers. “We have access to so many beautiful tiles and worktops. We’ve been to Germany, Italy, Poland and Denmark sourcing products and we want to use them. We’ve got 10 fitters and we don’t want them to get bored. We wanted that creative flair and that is ultimately what separates the showrooms at the top and everybody else. “The whole principle of both showrooms is that everyone knows grey or white, and where a bright green unit isn’t going to sell every

He adds: “Bath- room choices have caught up with kitchens now. Eight or 10 years ago, to get an art deco or a coloured unit, you would spend twice as much as you are now. But the bathroom world has finally caught up with the kitchen world. Fifty to 60% of our bathrooms have coloured brassware. The change in the tile industry over the past few years has been immense. You used to be able to get printed tiles, but they were pixelated. Now the quality is better. We can make the bathroom a fun space.” Tolbod believes it all comes down to how far you are prepared to go to meet the client’s needs and so his designers need to know how to talk to clients and work with them to achieve their desired goal.

TV rooms, etc,” adds Tolbod, “we are rolling through the house and the designer has to understand how that media unit works with the rest of the room, and if they don’t understand that, you are onto a loser already. “Interior designers also, because they work with fitters, tend to understand the fit, whereas someone who has never worked with a fitter doesn’t understand the possibilities that are out there and, yes, you can do different things, but they get stuck in what they know and don’t have either the ability of the support network to work outside of that.”


The Ascot show- room has been open just three months at the time of my visit in November, but Tolbod explains that he has 16 years’ experience in the KBB industry, having worked for a fitting company that often handled some very


big contracts, looking after 60,000 homes across the South.


He left them in 2013 and set out on his own as a one-man-band plumber. He had soon employed four more plumbers and was then joined by one of his current co-directors at Premiere Klasse, Richard Hasted, who was a carpenter. In 2016, they decided to partner and form a fitting company they called Dependon, which worked for developers and interior designers. They even did installations for Wren. Dependon now does all of the installations for Premiere Klasse. Tolbod found, though, that
