PAC International Delivers New Bell 407GXi to Virginia State Police

PAC International recently completed and delivered a new Bell 407GXi helicopter to the Virginia State Police. The State Police Aviation Unit’s primary mission is to provide search/rescue, law enforcement, and medical evacuation.

Metro Aviation is First to STC the Stryker Performance-LOAD Manual Cot Fastener in a Helicopter

Metro Aviation recently announced it is the first to STC the Stryker Performance-LOAD Manual Cot Fastener for BK117 C2/D2 models. The fastener meets crash safety recommendations for SAE J3027 and provides guidance for loading and unloading to improve efficiencies. With this system, crews can now carry the same Stryker litters approved for ground transport and eliminate the need to move patients from ground litter to flight litter during transport.

Boston Medflight is the launch customer for the system, and worked closely with Metro Aviation during its development.

“While Metro’s original Stryker gurney system provided us with a very robust, independent, and reliable process to transport our patients, the Performance Pro solution provides us with more flexibility by having a gurney that can be utilized both in our aircraft as well as our ground ambulances and in most first responders’ ambulances,” said Boston MedFlight Director of Base Operations Charlie Blathras. “Many of our helicopter transports require the need for ground ambulance support, and moving multiple times between gurneys increases the risk for our patients. The Performance Pro solution limits that overall risk and improves our system efficiency. We’re grateful to Metro for hearing our concerns and collaborating on a solution that meets our patient needs.”

Metro is currently producing 25 systems to be available during the first quarter of this year. The installation is similar to Metro Aviation’s long-standing litter retention plate and can be installed in the field.

with passive (ADS-B) surveillance and simultaneously tracks up to 45 targets. The aircraft is also equipped with the Garmin GRA55 radar altimeter, GDL69 XM weather receiver, Artex emergency locator transmitter, Devore Tel-Tail lights, Precise Flight Pulselite system, and custom exterior paint.

Mission-specific equipment including an AeroComputers U6000 mapping system, FLIR 8500 camera, and Trakka A800 searchlight system with Meeker mounts was also installed. Due to the department’s dual mission profile, the aircraft is also equipped with a Lifeport MedDeck pivoting litter, O2 system, True Blue medical inverter, PAC scene-lights, and more.

“The State Police Aviation Unit has been flying since 1984, and it is always an honor to partner with a prolific organization with such a bold history,” said PAC Director of Maintenance Ed Wahl. “PAC International is well-versed in law enforcement completions, and we enjoyed customizing this aircraft for the Virginia State Police.”
