Apple bird feeders
Using fruit that’s past it’s best to create these simple bird feeders will make good use of something that might have otherwise been thrown away.
What you’ll need
• Old apples • Teaspoons • Coconut oil • • Bird seed • Strong twigs
Method
1. Give each child an apple and let them use a teaspoon to scoop out several holes in the sides of their apple (keep the bits that have been removed for later).
2. Use the handle of the teaspoon to make a hole through the centre of each apple.
3. Tie one end of the string to the twig and push the other end through the apple using the teaspoon handle to create a perch for the birds to stand on.
4. Mix the coconut oil, bird seed and bits of apple mixture into the holes in their apples before hanging outside for the birds to enjoy.
