Tin can characters A fun way of introducing art into STEAM.
Step 1 Take two wiggle eyes and put some PVA on to stick the eyes to a tin.
Step 2 You can use whatever you prefer for a nose, either a pom pom or a self–adhesive jewel.
Step 3 To make the hair use pipe cleaners and wrap these around your finger to curl them. Stick
on with PVA, letting the PVA dry a little first.
Step 4 For the mouth either draw on some teeth on a piece of paper or attach pipe cleaners.
Step 5 Once this is done use the PVA to stick to the tin where a mouth should be.
Don’t forget to remove the items you have attached to the cans before you recycle them.
Things you’ll need
• Used and clean tin cans with sharp bits taken off • 303941 – Wiggle Eyes • 301295 – Glitter Pipe Cleaners • 333514 – Assorted Coloured Pom Poms
• 301614 – Metallic Foil Mesh • 301027 – Self–adhesive Acrylic Jewels • 713562 – PVA 1 Litre Glue
Step 3 Put your spool on the straw or pencil. If you don’t have a spool, simply secure your rope to the straw or pencil with a
piece of tape. You still have a hand crank winch. If you do use a spool, make sure to secure it with tape to the straw or pencil. An unsecured spool will just spin around the straw. If you are using a straw, you can even thread another straw into it and use the bendy part to make a handle!
Step 4 Secure your rope, string or ribbon to the spool with a piece of tape (or to the straw directly if you don’t have a spool)
and tie your object to the bottom of the string. You can use a quarter of a craft roll as the object if you choose.
