making sure that everyone leads as active a life as possible. As Rishi explains: “We will promote
physical wellbeing, and we’ll do that in the form of group physiotherapy sessions – our physiotherapist will also run private sessions with residents who need a little bit more, or who want to do little bit more.”
Thoughtful interior design Bedrooms at Aston Manor come in three styles: Classic, Premium, or Suite – the latter of which have a separate lounge area and kitchenette – with Classic rooms coming in at around 25m2
, including an en suite
wet room. There are spaces for residents to install fridges, and in a welcome nod towards an increasingly tech-savvy older generation, USB and USB-C ports in the
walls come as standard. Rooms have plenty of storage, including
a thoughtful interior design touch in the form of shelving angled specifically to allow for personal items to be seen easily from doorways, aiding wayfinding. Another aid to wayfinding is the
difference in colour palettes used not only between floors, but also between households. When it comes to the memory floor, this of course becomes particularly helpful, which is why the floor features a number of ‘themed’ areas, such as a ‘fashion’ area where residents can try on different hats and other items of clothing, and a ‘travel’ area designed to resemble a train carriage, where residents can enjoy a ‘train ride’ courtesy of a screen showing journeys as though from a train window. Another interesting offering on the
memory floor is the Dementia Family Café – which resembles a sports café, replete with a selection of games, a coffee machine, and comfy seating. The aim with this unique space is to encourage families to come into Aston Manor to enjoy some private time with their loved one in a relaxing space away from the resident’s room, promoting intergenerational contact and wellbeing. Finally, for when the time comes, Aston
Manor also has end-of-life suite – a flexible, self-contained, private space where family members can share a loved one’s final moments. As development of this part of Aylesbury
continues, Aston Manor will soon find itself next to not only a large supermarket and a drive-thru Starbucks, but also hundreds – even thousands – of new homes, increasing both the visibility of Harrington Care Homes’ first home and its potential clientele. As a clear statement of intent by a new provider, Aston Manor is seriously impressive, and we look forward to seeing how Rishi and the Harrington Care Homes team apply everything they have learned so far to their upcoming homes. n
