Manor has eliminated the use of incoming glass and plastic bottled water. Instead, all still and sparkling water is sourced from the mains, filtered on-site, and served in reusable glass bottles that are washed in the home’s dishwashers and used again.


No expense spared It is clear that both careful thought and serious investment have gone into every aspect of Aston Manor’s design. Beyond a plush visitor’s reception sits a cosy family bistro and bar with an adjacent piano lounge. Next door is a dedicated cinema room, with comfortable seating and shelves lined with jars of tempting sweets. The cinema incorporates the latest in sound technology, and Rishi tells me that investment in cutting edge tech was an important part of the project. Digital notice boards are dotted around the home, allowing for up-to-date information to be easily conveyed to residents, visitors, and


staff. In the garden, visitors may spot that certain rocks in the flower beds are, in fact, music speakers. Meanwhile, when it comes to safety, all communal areas – indoors and outdoors – are covered by CCTV, while bedrooms incorporate acoustic monitoring courtesy of Eclipse Nursecall Systems.


Promoting wellness While fully accessible from the Buckingham household, the Wellness Centre also has a separate entrance via Aston Manor’s car park, and Rishi tells me that there has been a lot of community interest in the space for private hydrotherapy sessions and physiotherapy. A track hoist system links the hydrotherapy pool to the changing area, and the lighting in the suite has been designed so that when somebody is being hoisted from the changing area to the pool in a horizontal position – looking upwards at the ceiling – there are no spotlights. For residents who are physically


unable to get to the Wellness Centre, the plan is for Aston Manor to have an in- house physiotherapist. Whether or not residents require specialist services such as rehabilitation or hydrotherapy, Aston manor’s ethos is very much centred around
