DESIGN IN MENTAL HEALTH 2024 EVENT PREVIEW
A new era and new venue for flagship event
This June will mark the start of a new era for the annual Design in Mental Health event as it makes its debut at the Manchester Central convention complex. Already established as a leading event for the mental health built environment, the two-day conference, exhibition, and awards relocates to the heart of one of Europe’s most energetic cities as part of plans to develop its visitor base, and the range of products and services on show, and to continue to attract leading names in the sector to speak at the conference.
Launched in 2013, Design in Mental Health brings together professionals and lived experience experts to learn about, share, and debate, every aspect of good design in mental health settings. Over the course of its first decade, the event has developed a diverse international community of attendees from across public and private healthcare, mental health charities, academia, architectural and design services, and product manufacturers, to name but a few. Now, after 10 successful live events in the Midlands, Design in Mental Health is relocating to a bigger venue in Manchester as it looks to develop its role as the home of learning and networking for anyone involved with the practice or theory of designing, building, equipping, refurbishing, or managing, places and spaces for mental health treatment. The event is organised by Step Exhibitions in conjunction with Design in Mental Health Network (DiMHN), a charity which aims to improve mental health outcomes by spreading the practice of good design, co-produced with lived experience. Speaking of the Network’s plans for the future, DiMHN CEO, Hannah Chamberlain, said, “As the Network continues to develop in reach and ambition, we are looking to create greater impact for our primary beneficiaries; those using mental health services day to day.
Creating ‘an informed community’ “Our goal is to create an informed community, with the tools and passion to influence and make change for the benefit of people using mental health services and frontline staff. With this purpose in mind, the move to Manchester, as a well-established and high-profile venue, will support an expanded capacity for exhibitors, delegates, and speakers at our annual flagship conference and exhibition. We’re looking forward to what the future brings in terms of opportunities to develop the community, expand our membership, lead the agenda, and champion best
