P RODUCT S Reliable imaging at your fingertips
Designed to provide clinicians with clear, insightful medical imaging, MINDRAY’s new ME8 point-of-care ultrasound system provides optimally-focused images supported by AI analysis tools.
With a weight and thickness of just 3kg and 44mm, the ME8 is one of the lightest and thinnest laptop ultrasound machines on the market. Yet the device offers smart features and greater image clarity traditionally seen only on larger cart-based machines.
Clinicians are supported by clear and uniform images at greater depths, thanks to innovative ZONE Sonography Technology (ZST+). Complex cardiac and lung ultrasound procedures are simplified by a range of AI analysis tools, allowing faster, more confident diagnosis and treatment. Ideal for emergency
department use, the ME8 offers a reliable point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) solution, thanks to its eight-hour battery life with U-bank and seamless easy-to-clean control panel. The control panel can also be configured to the desired clinical workflow – improving the speed of diagnosis even further.
Compliant packaging for clinical samples
ALPHA LABORATORIES and SHUTTLEPAC have announced that they have established an exclusive distribution partnership, in the UK and Ireland, that will bring new developments in UN3373 sample packaging solutions. Alpha Laboratories’ expertise in UN3373 compliance has, over many years, supported users in the healthcare and diagnostics arena, to develop compliant packaging systems for the transport of clinical samples from patient to laboratory. Alongside the provision of an extensive range of off- the-shelf packaging components, this also includes the development of bespoke kits. Shuttlepac is a specialist manufacturer of high quality, cost-effective packaging solutions for primary use in diagnostic testing and clinical research applications. These include the ShuttlePouch that
Rapid UV-C decontamination
Using the same UV-C light technology as INIVOS’ Ultra-V device, the new Ultra-V Connect is designed to fix to ceilings – its rapid-deployment, short cycle duration and enhanced safety measures make it ideal for use for spaces that need to be regularly decontaminated.
Able to decontaminate a space in as little as twenty-five minutes, the Ultra-V Connect is ideal for small, frequently used rooms and spaces, such as outpatient clinics, isolation wards, patient bathrooms, dirty utility spaces and dental surgeries. Multiple units can be connected to a single controller to serve larger areas such as theatres and multi-bed wards.
provides a convenient, compliant secondary packaging solution for specimen vials. Rob Vint, Alpha Laboratories’ managing
director, said: “The demand for easy-to- use specimen packaging to meet legal transport requirements for biological samples continues to escalate. Working with Shuttlepac will enable us to expand our offering and develop new solutions designed to further meet customers’ needs.”
Effective against coronavirus in 30 seconds
To ensure effective disinfection takes place to minimise the spread of the COVID-19, it is important to: l Select the correct product based on surface type and degree of contamination.
l Check that the product has been tested effectively against coronavirus.
l Refer to the contact time required to kill the virus.
l Gain clarity on the correct cleaning
procedure to effectively disinfect the surface.
PDI aims to make a difference by ensuring staff are confident on product selection and how to use solutions. This includes free of charge audits, recommending solutions (such as the Sani-Cloth AF Universal, which effectively kills coronavirus in 30 seconds), online training, provision of bespoke

The Ultra-V Connect is fully calibrated to create self-disinfecting rooms, such as high traffic touch-points or specific patient equipment within the space it’s fitted, targeting routines in-between patients, efficient in saving time as well as energy. Operators can be confident that each cycle has been successful, as the Ultra-V Connect provides a validation report at the end of every process to confirm that it has successfully removed pathogens in the area. Enhanced safety measures include operator cards for approved users only, plus built-in safety sensors which immediately end the cycle when movement is detected. This removes the risk of accidental human interaction with the technology or disturbance within the area. The Ultra-V Connect uses UV-C light to reduce harmful pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen which causes the COVID-19 virus, by up to >log5.
