GS1 UK Healthcare Conference 2025

By providing a platform for discussion and collaboration, the event will help NHS Trusts, suppliers, and policymakers navigate this transition and maximise the benefits of interoperability.

Keynote speakers Attendees will hear from leading voices in the sector, including Sir Julian Hartley, CEO of the Care Quality Commission, Ming Tang, Chief Data and Analytics Officer for NHS England, Dr. Henrietta Hughes OBE, England’s Patient Safety Commissioner, Sara Ford, Executive Director for Strategy, Marketing and Change, NHS Supply Chain, David Lawson, Medical Technology and Innovation Director, DHSC, Andy Malyon, National Clinical Lead – Scan for Safety, Scottish Government, and Mike Emery, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer (Health and Social Care), NHS Wales/Welsh Government. These experts will address some of the biggest challenges facing healthcare today, from reducing preventable harm to implementing seamless electronic patient records. Their insights will be complemented by case studies and panel discussions exploring best practices from across the UK.

What’s on the agenda? With over 50 expert speakers, 40 sessions, and 10 hours of CPD-accredited content, the event will deliver invaluable knowledge and practical takeaways for delegates. It will also provide extensive networking opportunities, allowing healthcare professionals to share experiences, build partnerships, and explore the latest innovations in digital healthcare. The conference agenda is built around the four key pillars of Scan4Safety: person, product, place and process. These themes are fundamental to improving healthcare delivery, ensuring that every item used in patient care is identifiable, every location is mapped, every procedure is recorded with precision, and the data can be shared seamlessly via interoperable electronic patient record systems.

The benefits of this approach are already being seen in NHS Trusts implementing Scan4Safety, with improved inventory management, reduced waste, enhanced patient outcomes and much more.

Hands-on insights The conference will feature dedicated sessions on how standardisation supports the shift from reactive to preventive care. By leveraging accurate and real-time data, clinicians can anticipate patient needs, manage resources more effectively, and ultimately enhance patient safety. Case studies will highlight how NHS Trusts are using GS1 standards to streamline processes, reduce waste and improve supply chain resilience. A session on future regulatory requirements will also explore how the use of globally recognised standards can ensure

compliance, while simplifying operational workflows.

In addition to the primary conference sessions, a series of interactive workshops will allow delegates to engage in hands-on learning experiences. These workshops will focus on implementing GS1 standards in clinical settings, maximising the benefits of barcode scanning at the point of care, and overcoming common challenges in digital adoption. Experts from NHS Trusts that have successfully embedded GS1 standards will share their experiences, providing practical insights that attendees can apply within their own organisations.

Advancing healthcare innovation The GS1 UK Healthcare Conference 2025 would not be possible without the support of its
