Protecting decontamination staff from the risk of peracetic acid exposure

Peracetic acid (PAA) is used for sterilisation because of its effectiveness in killing bacteria and microbes. However, it is also a high strength oxidant and is dangerous to all living cells. The best way to ensure safety of staff working in these departments is to monitor and alarm where levels exceed that of the exposure guidelines, by using fixed or portable detection with reliable and accurate PAA sensors. The ATi H10-51 Peracetic Acid smart vapour sensor can be used for the detection of PAA vapour in ambient air. It is used in conjunction with ATi’s Model D16 PortaSens

lll portable leak detector or F12/D fixed, toxic gas monitor. The F12D (PAA) monitor is a continuous detector that can be positioned anywhere in a room to alarm if safe limits are hit. The system uses a ‘vapour’ sensor that requires an annual replacement with no calibration from the customer. The system can be used independently with options for connectivity to an existing central/fire alarm

system. The ATi fixed monitor has a built-in data logging facility for historical data capture and gives ‘peace of mind’ to the health and safety staff that all stakeholders are protected with alerts or if limits are exceeded.

Single-bay EWD with smart technology

The WASSENBURG WD4200 is a single-bay endoscope washer- disinfector with smart technology that ensures controlled and effective cleaning and disinfection of flexible endoscopes. Through its compact design and ease of use the WD4200 is a valuable asset to the endoscopy environment. The Wassenburg WD4200 enables maximum contact of all parts of the endoscope with the process chemicals and full immersion of the endoscope insertion tube for

optimum cleaning and disinfection. The smart liquid flow control system monitors all individual and interconnected endoscope channels for connection, flow, pressure and blockage.

Not only the channels, but also the condition of the endoscope itself is monitored through EndoXpert. The integrated smart technology of EndoXpert provides information on the condition of each endoscope for optimum safety.

Reverse osmosis water purification system

ENVIROGEN GROUP’s EndoTherm Duo Modular is a range of reverse osmosis (RO) systems designed to meet the water quality standards of HTM01-06, HTM01-01, ISO15883 and AS/NZ 4187. Suitable for endoscopy and sterile services applications, this modular and upgradeable range can

be set to operate at ambient or elevated temperatures (user adjustable) with automatic thermal sanitisation taking place out of hours. All models can be electric and/or steam heated. A combination of reverse osmosis, ultra-violet disinfection, sub-micron filtration and constant recirculation all work together to maintain good water quality at a range of dispense rates, matched to single or multiple decontamination equipment needs. This solution comes with simple to navigate touch screen HMI for easy system programming; allowing for secure access levels, simple maintenance procedures and display of real-time graphical data – along with remote monitoring services. Assembled on three prefabricated modules, these systems are straightforward to install, commission and validate. Additionally, the EndoTherm range is backed by Envirogen’s PureCare water treatment plant maintenance programmes that can be tailored to your needs.

of infection GOJO Industries-Europe, has extended its Purell surface range, with the addition of two new products, to help businesses keep their spaces hygienically clean and healthy. The portfolio also has a new look. Added to the portfolio of Purell Surface Sanitising Spray and Wipes, are a bucket of wipes and a 5-litre jug. The bucket holds 450 wipes, ideal for large surfaces and intensive use, while the 5L jug is designed to refill the 750ml trigger spray bottles, making it a more sustainable purchase. Fast acting and with high antimicrobial efficacy, Purell surface sanitising products can be used with complete confidence in a variety of settings and sectors. Last year, Purell Advanced Hygienic

Hand Rub and its Surface Spray and Wipes were tested against Coronavirus, passing the EN 14476 standard with a contact time of just 30 seconds. The Surface range has also been tested specifically on Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, and yeast, and conforms to the international food taint testing standard EN 4120:2007.

CPD training platform for staff

ISOPHARM is launching online training for sterile services, endoscopy decontamination and validation engineers, offering a platform where all levels of staff can access a vast array of training modules written by industry experts. Training modules are bite sized, lasting less than 60 minutes each, allowing for regular short training sessions without any impact on department productivity.

Modules will cover all areas of SSD and EDU, providing details that staff need to know and the reasons why processes are completed in very specific ways. Once a module has been completed there is a short assessment to confirm the staff member’s competency, and once passed this will be acknowledged with an online certificate. Department managers will also have full visibility of staff progress through their online staff register and training dashboard, a service provided free with their subscription. Launching in May, the platform will assist new starters and support refresher training for those who are experienced in the industry. Visit: https://hospitalcpd.isopharm.co.uk
