Dr Aphrodite Spanou Director for Healthcare, Life Sciences and Chemicals.
We enter exciting times for UK exports and particularly in the field of life sciences and healthcare. This dynamic sector has made ground-breaking strides in the response to the global pandemic. The Department for International Trade (DIT) is
responsible for securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade. We help businesses export into global markets and help overseas companies locate and grow in the UK. We also use trade and investment to underpin the government’s agenda for a Global Britain and its ambitions for prosperity, stability and security worldwide, of which life sciences and healthcare are key themes. The UK government continues to support businesses, providing funding, insights and expertise, leading the way for trade agreements whilst working with global partners to provide goods and services. The UK is the worlds sixth largest exports and second largest for services and exports. The UK is a world leader in the field of
genomics, MedTech, digital health & AI and we are continuing to develop new and exciting products and services to collaborate with global partners. In the UK, strong partnerships between industry, NHS and government have enabled us to rapidly
apply our capacity in the fields of Genomics, Medtech, Diagnostics and many others to respond to this challenge. Building on this capacity will present an opportunity to provide resilience against future disease outbreaks. Innovation is at the heart of the UK’s ecosystems.
The British Government’s ongoing investment in growing our capabilities in areas such as AI and more broadly around Data Driven Healthcare, has further fuelled the creation of cutting edge, evidence-based solutions. Solutions which have the key to unlock global challenges, effectively. This year we will be partnering with ABHI at
MEDICA 2022, Dusseldorf, The event of the year for the market, bringing the best and brightest made in UK companies to collaborate on the international stage and sell to the world. There is an exciting range of UK activity taking place over the course of the event, celebrating innovation and excellence in the UK’s vibrant Life Sciences sector, and creating opportunities to engage with other global businesses and organisations. We are expecting much higher levels of in person attendance this year - come and be part of the export journey at one of the largest MedTech trade shows.
