Scotland’s Booming HealthTech Sector
Scotland’s life sciences sector is globally renowned thanks to our incredible workforce, world-class universities and innovative companies that are located here.
We are proud that a wide range of businesses providing solutions to the global HealthTech market have chosen to call Scotland their home. These not only include multinationals such as Medtronic, Canon Medical Research Europe and Terumo Aortic, but also many highly innovative small and medium sized enterprises. The sector has a highly skilled workforce that consistently delivers innovation, including: n Pillcam, an edible miniature camera that checks for signs of colon cancer
n The world’s first commercially available multi- articulated prosthetic hand developed by Touch Bionics
n The manufacture of LumiraDx’s 12-minute COVID-19 antigen testing strips
n The world’s first MRI scanner developed at the University of Aberdeen
