Video service ‘connects’ parents withchild’sprogress
A secure video messaging service that ‘connects parents with their child’s progress’ in NHS neonatal units is being introduced by Trusts across the country. The idea for the vCreate App came from a parent of a child receiving neonatal care at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children. Hospital staff were asked to consider video updates as a way of reassuring parents on the wellbeing of their baby when they were not able to be in the Neonatal Unit. The concept for the vCreate Neonatal Video System was developed collaboratively by NHS clinicians and technology provider, vCreate, whose founder, Ben Moore, explained: “We worked with the hospital’s clinical team to develop a solution to help parents of premature babies at a difficult time. We also decided an alternative approach to funding was needed to remove cost as a barrier to entry for hospitals.” vCreate offers charities and corporate sponsors the opportunity to sponsor vCreate for their local NHS Neonatal Unit ‘in exchange for brand awareness, association with tech for good, and media coverage’. vCreate is reportedly the first application of its kind to provide on- demand progress updates by video. It ‘forms a secure baby-care diary that builds up over time, and can be downloaded by parents as a keepsake once their baby has been discharged’.

New ‘network’ established to represent community services
A new network has been launched ‘to represent the community services sector and forge better links with the rest of health and social care’. The NHS Confederation and NHS Providers have jointly established the Community Network, which will ‘aim to be an effective and influential voice for the community services sector’. They
explained: “The Network will make the case for community services to play a leading role in the development of integrated systems, and for sufficient funding and investment to support ambitions to strengthen community services. It will also have a strong emphasis on promoting the link between community services and the rest of the health and care system, including primary care and social care services.” NHS Confederation CEO, Niall Dickson, added: “Community health services are a vital and often overlooked part of our healthcare system. If the NHS is to survive and thrive these services must play an even greater role in the years ahead as we provide more care in patients’ homes, and reduce the huge rise in demand for hospital care. Our new Community Network will be an effective, articulate, and influential national voice for the sector.”
