Programme for Cardiff conference unveiled
With just under three months to go, the programme for the IHEEM 2018 Regional Conference and Exhibition, ‘IHEEM 2018’, has been announced, with the conference theme being ‘How to keep the patient safe in your hospital’.
One of several highly topical subjects examined will be the impact of cyberattacks on business continuity and disaster recovery, while Gareth Lloyd, a fire advisor at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership – Specialist Estates Services, will review the key points of the Dame Hackitt Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, published last month, with specific reference to the potential implications for the healthcare sector.
Hilary Humphreys, Professor of Clinical Microbiology and consultant microbiologist at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Beaumont Hospital, will lead discussions on ‘Operating theatre ventilation and reducing postoperative infection. Is it all just hot air?’ The event will also focus on ‘BIM in action’, highlight the impact of corrosion and the marine
environment on coastal healthcare buildings, and see presentations on the monitoring and auditing of the estate. The first day’s opening address will be given by Dr Marion Lyons, director of Public Health at Public Health Wales, and the second day’s such address by Neil Davies, director, Specialist Estates Services at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership – Specialist Estates Services. IHEEM 2018 takes place at the City Hall, Cardiff, on 30 and 31 August. To celebrate IHEEM’s 75th anniversary, a black-tie evening dinner and drinks reception will be held at the five-star St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay on 30 August; dinner places cost £75 +VAT, increasing to £95 +VAT from 1 July.
Latest changes to Section 710 Medical Locations
On 19 September the IHEEM Electrical Technical Platform will present a seminar in Leeds to discuss the latest changes to, and requirements of, Section 710 Medical Locations.
Sessions will cover: the background and rationale to Medical Locations, the identification and definitions of Medical Locations, Supplementary Equipotential Bonding, Medical IT Systems in Medical Locations, Electromagnetic Capability, Residual Current Monitoring and Monitoring Systems, and the inspection and testing of Medical Locations.

Gareth Lloyd. Hilary Humphreys. HTM 04-01 guidance in the spotlight
Next month the IHEEM Water Technical Platform will present two seminars to discuss HTM 04-01.
The events will be held in London on 2 July and on 12 July in Birmingham. The programme will feature members of the Technical Platform and guest speakers from across the sector discussing key themes related to the HTM 04-01 guidance. Sessions will cover a range of topics, including: an appreciation of the temperature requirements of HTM 04-01; the benefits and drawbacks of wireless data collection versus other methods; rapid microbiological methods, and utilising a building energy maintenance system for HTM04-01 compliance.
