TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Insight

SETTING THE STANDARD IN LIFE SAFETY & SECURITY

Angela Bennett, CEO of Diamond Systems, reflects on four decades of keeping key workers safe from fire, crime, and other critical emergencies.

D

iamond Systems is an independent, NSI Gold-accredited life safety and security specialist, delivering the design, supply, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of life safety systems, including fire detection and alarm systems, voice alarm, emergency voice communication (EVC) systems (including disabled refuge systems), and nurse call, alongside integrated electronic security solutions, across the UK and Ireland. With almost 40 years’ experience, our

work is grounded in one clear purpose: to protect people and property from the risks of fire, crime, and acts of terrorism. Nowhere is that responsibility more critical than within healthcare environments. Healthcare estates present some of the

most complex and high-risk challenges in life safety. From acute hospitals and mental health facilities to community care settings, systems must not only meet stringent regulatory and HTM requirements but also operate reliably in environments where evacuation is not straightforward and continuity of care is paramount. Our engineers are trained and qualified across the full lifecycle of life safety systems, including design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance, with our team holding the Fire Qual Level 6 certification in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, alongside NVQ Level 3 qualifications and extensive manufacturer training across leading platforms. This ensures not only compliance with standards, but confidence in system performance.

Investing in innovation

Diamond Systems has extensive experience supporting public sector, healthcare, and care environments, including long-term maintenance contracts

for large, multi-site estates. This has shaped our approach: compliance is not a box-ticking exercise, but about ensuring life critical safety systems perform when they are needed most. Our offering extends beyond electronic

systems. We provide a complete life safety solution, including defibrillators, evacuation equipment, sustainable PFAS-free fire extinguishers, fire door inspections, and comprehensive fire risk assessments. This enables our clients to manage life safety through a single, competent and accountable partner. We also continue to invest in innovation, including remote connectivity and smart diagnostics to improve system performance, reduce disruption, and support proactive maintenance strategies,

particularly valuable within live healthcare environments. This includes the adoption of advanced detection technologies, such as the latest Siemens Cerberus Pro range, which offers enhanced detection accuracy, reduced false alarms, and intelligent device-level data to support faster fault diagnosis and system optimisation. As the industry continues to evolve in the wake of regulatory change and increased scrutiny following the Grenfell Tower fire, competence and accountability have rightly come to the forefront. In parallel, emerging legislation such as Martyn’s Law is set to place additional responsibilities on organisations, including certain healthcare settings, to consider the threat of terrorism and improve preparedness. To support this, we have introduced

a Level 3 Counter Terrorism awareness course in partnership with an SFJ Awards- approved provider, helping organisations understand their responsibilities, assess risk, and implement proportionate protective measures.

We believe raising standards across healthcare estates requires not just technical capability, but leadership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to doing the right thing
