The Fakuma plastics exhibition has grown consider- ably at its location in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance where Germany, Austria and Switzer- land meet. The event, which takes place in the two years when the K Show does not run, was bigger than ever in 2017, which marked the 25th

sary of Fakuma. There were nearly 1,900 exhibitors at Fakuma 2017 and 48,375 visitors to the show, said the organising company PE Schall. Injection moulding continues to be at the core of

the Fakuma exhibition, but the show’s growth has been partly due to expansion of the exhibitor base to other plastics processes. Plastics recycling technol- ogy is well represented among exhibitors, as shown in this preview of highlighted recycling-related companies. Moreover, Fakuma 2018 is embracing the growing circular economy trend as a key theme. “The plastics industry has been becoming more

and more sustainable for a number of years already,” said Fakuma Project Manager Annemarie Schur. Recycling is in great demand, and even high-tech materials like CFRP are being recycled more and reused for new purposes, the organisers said. Injection moulders are, of course, familiar with in-house recycling of start-up mouldings, sprues and so on. But they are also important as custom- ers of plastics recycling companies, and the rising need to use more recyclate is leading to more co-operation. VDMA, the German association of plastics machinery manufacturers, is holding a press tour at Fakuma 2018 which will highlight important circular economy issues within the plastics industry. “Plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers can and want to make their contri- bution,” said the association. The VDMA said important fields of action
