Ferrarelle closes the PET loop


Italian bottled water company Ferrarelle has set up an in-house PET recycling operation, says Amut which supplied and installed equipment for the company. “With our new recycling plant in Italy, Presenzano (Caserta), we


take a step further in the ecofriendly attitude we have been pursuing over the last years,” said Pietro Bortone, Ferrarelle’s Plant Manager at Presenzano. Amut said that Ferrarelle is using its washing technology to


produce up to 3,000 kg/h of flakes recycled from post-consumer PET bottles. The flakes are upgraded to food-contact quality and used directly by Ferrarelle to produce preforms and final bottles. Once in full production, the recycling plant is expected to


exceed PET demand in Ferrarelle’s preform production of around 700 million per year. It is also looking at selling recycled PET to third parties.

Label materials supplier Avery Dennison says it is the first company to launch liners made from post-consumer rPET in Europe. It says process- ing benefits are retained when switching to rPET. Availability of suitable


rPET is currently limited so it initially has a restricted supply of the rPET liner, but it plans to scale up production significantly. It aims to have rPET as an option across all its film and paper constructions. � www.averydennison.com
