MELT FILTRATION | TECHNOLOGY

Continuous, high-quality melt filtration is a must for recyclers wanting clean production. David Eldridge finds that technology companies are positioning themselves to meet their needs

Suppliers respond to rising demand for filters

Manufacturers of melt filters for plastics recycling are reporting good growth in sales for their products. Recyclers are increasingly gearing themselves to making as clean a product as possible so it can be offered as an alternative to virgin polymer. Melt filtration is a crucial process stage for plastics recyclers to ensure production of high quality recycled pellets. Recognition of this need is growing at the same time that recyclers are handling post-consumer waste that is sometimes heavily contaminated, requiring the use of efficient, automated melt filtration systems. In response to these market drivers, technology companies are developing continuous melt filters with improved performance, and undertaking business initiatives to meet burgeoning demand. Leading melt filter manufacturer Ettlinger of

already confirmed that the expertise of both firms will assist the development of innovations and new processes in the polymer, compounding and recycling markets,” the companies said. Volker Neuber, Managing Director of Ettlinger, said: “Maag’s worldwide presence will ease our entry into new markets where we haven’t previously been active. And it will help us serve our existing customers better and faster wherever they happen to be located.” Ettlinger has two business lines: high perfor- mance continuous melt filters and large injection moulding machines which are custom made for clients. Ettlinger melt filters are used for processing heavily contaminated material streams as well as extrusion applications where pressure stable filtration is needed.
