Preparation area at QCP’s PP and PE recycling facility in Geleen, Netherlands

New owners boost QCP

The takeover of plastics recycler Quality Circular Polymers (QCP) in the Netherlands has been completed by polyolefins producer LyondellBasell and waste management group Suez. Under the acquisition agreement, which was first announced in November 2017, the 50/50 partners are jointly operating QCP. LyondellBasell CEO Bob

Patel said: “Partnering with Suez allows us to contribute to the circular economy in a way that no plastics company has before. For several years, we have seen increased demand for recycled and reused plastics, especially in Europe. With QCP, we have combined our respective expertise with Suez to create an innovative system that can be scaled as the circular economy grows.” LyondellBasell will add

chemicals park in Geleen from 35,000 tonnes in 2018 to 100,000 tonnes by 2020. The QCP facility was established by Huub Meessen and Marc Houter- mans in 2015. Its supply partners include: B+B Anlagenbau, which equipped the plant with washing and sorting technology; KraussMaffei Berstorff, which installed two twin-screw compound- ing extrusion lines; and AZO, which supplied materials handling and automation.

Plastic waste raw material has been sourced by Suez since tart-up of the plant. Suez operates nine dedi- cated plastics recycling facilities in Europe. In 2017, Suez processed 400,000 tonnes of plastic waste and produced 150,000 tonnes of recycled plastic material. The company has set an objective of increasing its processing capacity by 50% to 600,000 tonnes in 2020. www.qcpolymers.com www.lyondellbasell.com www.suez.com

27-28 June 2018 Messe Essen, Germany

Plastics Recycling World 2018 is an exciting new exhibition from AMI that will run alongside the Compounding World Expo at Messe Essen, Germany on 27-28 June 2018.

The exhibition will feature an international array of manufacturers of plastics recycling machinery and equipment, as well as suppliers of materials, additives and related services for plastics recyclers.

Admission to the event will be free-of-charge, and a series of technical presentations and industry debates will be held in a dedicated conference theatre on the exhibition floor. These will help to attract a substantial international audience focused specifically on plastics recycling.

The target audience will encompass all companies carrying out plastics recycling. These range from recycling operations sorting and handling mixed, municipal, industrial and post-consumer waste through to polymer producers and processors that are reclaiming scrap material in-house. The event will also appeal to policy makers and to companies using recycled plastics in their products.

The exhibition will take place in its own hall - Messe Essen’s impressive Hall 2. This is adjacent to the separate hall being used for the Compounding World Expo, allowing easy movement between the two shows. Both events will benefit from the crossover between the plastics recycling and plastics compounding sectors in terms of technologies, markets and activities.

The exhibition will be supported by AMI’s Plastics Recycling World magazine, which is being launched this year, as well as its established titles Compounding World, Film and Sheet Extrusion, Injection World and Pipe and Profile Extrusion. Its promotion will also benefit from AMI’s extensive database of plastics recyclers around the world.
