to each single controlled zone and visualises the scrolling messages that can help the operator in case of alarm. The temperature controller continuously regulates the absorption of each zone and allows a prompt intervention in case plastic material leaks from an injector. It also identifies and signals thermocouple failures (breakage and inverted connection), fuse and heater interruption, solid state relay faults, and interruption of one of the supply phases. On the front panel, six LED indicators are present for each zone, which signal any kind of malfunction of the control loop. If the thermocouple fails, the operator can submit a zone to another with the same thermal behaviour (‘slave’ function), which is a valid alternative to manual operation. The synchronous increase of temperatures avoids heating differences in the various zones, due to the different characteristics of each heater during machine start-up. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to delay the start-up of zones to relate to nozzles. Thermoplay has also introduced a


mini gate valve nozzle for injection moulding of small parts. The FØ11 is designed to meet the increasing requirements of special applica- tions in cosmetic, medical and food packaging markets. The nozzle has a minimum pitch of 17mm. Due to its compact profile, the company says that it is ideal for use in restricted areas and allows injection on an inside surface of the part. The nozzle and tip design allows low


thermal dispersion giving maximum flexibility to the mould maker to design the cooling system. The heaters uniformly distribute heat along the whole nozzle surface, providing low energy consumption (150W maximum per nozzle). The tip can be easily replaced for maintenance with the mould installed on the injection machine. Valve gate actuation can be pneumatic or hydraulic, individual or plate actuated, making them ideal for high cavitation applications requiring increased precision. The pin, available in cylindrical or conical options, is designed to minimise the witness mark on the part (gate diameter is 0.8-1.2mm) providing the highest quality finish. The FØ11 valve gate nozzle series is claimed to combine flexibility and quality, and is available in lengths from 56-146mm as standard. This nozzle is suitable for injection of all thermo- plastics, excluding abrasive materials. Husky’s Hot Runners and Controllers business has further developed its Ultra Helix valve gates,

with close to 4000 nozzles installed. New products include the Altanium Valve Gate Sequencer, a single unit that combines temperature and servo control for filling large, multi-gated parts, as well as the Ultra SideGate Inline, providing 18mm gate spacing for small parts and is claimed to be ideal for compact moulds. Mold-Masters has added the Accu-Valve LX model for filled resins. The company, which is part of the Milacron group, says that the range now provides precise cylindrical gate geometry to meet the needs of medical, packaging and personal care moulding applications with solutions that offer long life (MX), fast colour change (CX) and now for processing filled resins (LX). Compatible with crystalline and glass filled resins, such as PA, PC, POM, PBT and PA, Accu-Valve LX features a replace- able gate insert to maintain tight tolerance require- ments. This eliminates any need to refinish the gate due to the wear inherent with processing filled resins. The company has also introduced the E-Multi auxiliary injection unit to convert any injection moulding machine to enable or expand its multi-shot capabilities. E-Multi-LSR is based on the existing platform but optimised for the special- ised cold moulding processing requirements of LSR. Driven by electric servos, E-Multi is claimed to offer good process- ing precision, repeatability and versatility. Operators can control shot volume screw position to


within 0.01mm (screw stroke) to achieve part weight accuracy to within 0.004g (0.8%). Currently it is available with a maximum shot capacity of 38cc. E-Multi is compatible with any moulding cell and has a large range of mounting options including vertical, horizontal and custom configurations. The FusionG2 nozzle range has now been


expanded to include the new F3000 nozzle, which is capable of small part production with shot sizes less than 20g. This allows FusionG2 to be used in a much wider range of applications, such as under-the-bon- net and other technical automotive applications.
