at Fakuma. Erico Spini, Marketing Manager Europe of Performance Plastics, said the new products were created as part of RadiciGroup’s strategy of expanding its speciality products portfolio. “A wider choice of available materials allows us
to better support our customers, specifically in their projects involving innovation and metal replace- ment,” he said. He pointed out that the PPS products will be targeted predominantly at automotive applications that require tight toler- ances, high dimensional stability (an Achilles’ heel of polyamides owing to their water absorption) and exceptional resistance to chemicals and high heat. The company also has electrical and electronic
applications in its sights, where the inherent flame resistance of PPS and its ability to be injection moulded into very thin wall sections will be an advantage. A third area is water management, an increasingly attractive focus area (not only at RadiciGroup) for metal substitution, and where the very good hydrolysis resistance of PPS is another plus point. RadiciGroup is starting with five Raditeck P
grades, ranging from a 40% glass-fibre reinforced product through to a 65% mixed mineral-glass
fibre filled grade, including an impact-modified grade on the way. Grades with improved process- ability and reduced flash are also in the works. “We are also ready to create customised grades too,” Spini said at the show. Latest addition to Solvay Specialty Polymers’
Ryton PPS family is Ryton R-4-300, said to offer improved performance in tensile strength and elongation, as well as best-in-class weld-line strength. Target applications for the new product – the first linear type since the company acquired the Ryton business from Chevron Phillips in 2015 – include thermal management modules and parts where complex geometries require robust me- chanical properties.
New possibilities for PBT Applications are also increasing for polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) as suppliers increase the performance capabilities of compounds. Lanxess, for example, has expanded its portfolio of halogen- free, flame-retardant Pocan compounds. New additions to the Pocan BFN PBT product line, which previously encompassed materials with 13, 25 and 30% glass fibre reinforcement, include Pocan
