THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMERS | MATERIALS

When Benvic acquired TPE product lines from

Celanese in 2021, one of the first things it did was amalgamate several trademarks related to SBS, SEBS, TPU and TPO-based compounds into a single entity named Dotflex, which was first unveiled at last year’s K Show ahead of a wider launch.

Benvic says it is continually refining TPE techni- cal and process solutions and finding new ways to increase efficiency across the board. “Our in-house process re-engineering phase is key in managing clear differentiation of footwear product lines and in reducing overall lead times for markets,” says Francesco Corsato, Benvic’s technical leader for the Dotflex lines. “Now we are centred on the way that Benvic interacts within all our footwear marketplace segments, with our customers and also with the end user.” The footwear sector is sensitive to trends and fash- ions so the innovation level required from toolmak- ers and injection moulders is exceptionally high. Benvic says Dotflex TPE materials have been designed for optimum processability and allow a range of aesthetic and technical challenges to be met, such as how the sole of a shoe can be made

more resistant to abrasion, UV exposure, and fatigue. The company is now exploring how the benefits

of Dotflex can be extended into areas away from the high street, such as the building and construc- tion, automotive, and medical sectors. Benvic Product Marketing Manager Eric Grange

says: “The different characteristics that Benvic TPE’s can offer will allow us to manage a complete range of product characteristics from essential PVC properties to top high performance TPEs. This in turn will enable Benvic to move on to more technical TPE applications that, again, can be deployed together with our ProVinyl compounds or, for example, other recycled or biomaterial products that we have in our portfolio.”
