materials from UBQ, which is set to open a new facility in the Netherlands with a production output of 72,000 tonnes/yr. Last October, Avient announced its new


ReSound Ultra-Low Carbon Footprint TPEs. These formulations offer a cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint (PCF) range between negative 0.46 and 0.0 CO2 equivalent kg/kg product while delivering comparable performance to traditional TPEs. Avient follows the ISO 14067:2018 standard to calculate PCF values and utilises global formulation expertise and green manufacturing processes, as well as factoring in sourcing and logistics. “Our customers seek solutions to meet carbon


neutrality and net zero commitments influenced by their corporate goals, consumer preference, and growing regulatory pressure,” says Matt Mitchell, Director of Global Marketing of Specialty Engi- neered Materials at Avient. “The addition of these eco-conscious grades to our expanding ReSound TPE portfolio offers yet another way for customers to leverage our material science to achieve their sustainability goals.” Earlier this year, the company announced it was


expanding its existing ReSound REC Recycled Content TPE portfolio to include new formulations developed primarily for overmoulding PC, ABS, and PC/ABS blends. These new formulations will be initially available in three grades with up to 45% PCR content from recycled lubricant oil and food packaging, covering a hardness range from 40 to 60 Shore A. razors, hair brushes, phone cases, speaker gaskets, and power equipment. Avient says it is currently working to extend the portfolio with customised grades to meet specific application needs. The company also recently announced nine new


ReSound BIO TPEs formulated with bio-renewable content derived from plants. These new grades contain 35-75% bio content, validated using ASTM C6866-21 method B. The new reSound BIO 2800 and 7900 series


range in durometer from 30-70 Shore A and offer comparable performance, look, feel, and smell to traditional TPEs. These BIO TPEs have an opaque natural colour and offer excellent colourability making them ideal for use in consumer goods such as personal-care products, cosmetic packaging, toys, or phone accessories.


Medical field At last year’s Compamed exhibition in Dusseldorf, Hexpol TPE officially launched its range of medical TPEs with bio-attributed content. The mass balance principle used allows for a gradual increase of bio-circular share using existing infrastructure with the objective of slowly reducing the amount of fossil resources required. The bio-circular feedstock is added at the beginning of the process, traced through intermediate transformations, and allo- cated to the end product. As bio-circular and fossil feedstocks are mixed, it is not possible to guaran- tee a specific concentration in the final product. This makes it comparable to ‘green’ electricity,
