Yizumi-HPM to expand tech centre in the US
During NPE 2018 in Orlando this month, Yizumi-HPM announced preliminary plans to expand its new North American technical centre in Iberia, Ohio. The company, a unit of China’s Yizumi Group which makes hybrid injection moulding machin- ery from 54 to 3,250 tonnes, has undertaken preliminary engineering studies and architectural work, and aims to begin work in Q4. This news came seven
months after Yizumi-HPM opened the 2,600 m² centre
and a year after a separate expansion in China. The extension will see an extra 1,850 m² of manufacturing space added to meet growing demand for its large-tonnage injection moulding machines, according to the company’s president John Beary. There has been particu-
larly strong demand for the company’s DP-N two-platen injection series in the 500 to 3,250 tonnes clamping force range. These are based on HPM designs and are built to North American
design criteria and stand- ards, with KEBA touch- screen control systems. But they also benefit from the engineering and manufac- turing expertise of Yizumi. The $2.5m investment includes a 68-tonne crane to support and facilitate customer trials and demon- strations. Additional house sales, manufacturing and other administrative services will also be accommodated, along with room for ma- chine development and customer training.

FDA clears Total recycled HDPE resin
The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the secondary recycling process used at Total’s Antwerp site to make its HDPE ‘circular com- pounds’ is effective in reducing contami- nants from post-consumer recycled (PCR) HDPE material to allow its use in food packaging. The FDA letter of non-objection clears
Total’s rPE 6306, which contains PCR- HDPE, for use in bottles for milk and juices, meat trays and other food packag- ing products at room and refrigeration temperatures. ‘’We had already demonstrated that a compound containing post-consumer HDPE and a specifically developed virgin

Now, we are pleased to have received the non-objec- tion letter from the US Food and Drug Administration confirming the success of our efforts in upgrading recyclates,’’ said Jean Viallefont, Vice President Polymers Europe for Total. The company has also developed a
range of PP ‘circular compounds’ with a high PCR content. These are said to match key performance requirements for many applications, including crates, caps, bottles and buckets. The company is sepa- rately seeking to industrialise PS recycling.
