This is providing new opportunities for the company’s Vestakeep polyetheretherketone (PEEK). He says it can be used in extremely durable gear components where resistance to chemicals and temperatures any- where from 200 to 250°C may be called for and where alternative wear-resistant thermoplastics often used in gears (acetals for example), fall short. Schmitz emphasises that in these situations,


PEEK is an excellent alternative to metals, espe- cially in parts with high rotational speeds and so subject to quite high forces.
